#34 CP(1)

The article I choose on commonplace today is Classes, Finals, Friends, and Cancer: The Life of Future College Students? I chose the college section, and found this article. When I saw the words Classes, Finals and Friends, I was narrowly skip this essay; but then I saw the word: cancer. I was wonder that what the relationship between college students and cancer is. As a result, I click into the essay.
Before I read this essay, I really had no idea about how cancer is influencing college students’ life. The argument of the article is: as the cancer is threatening college students, students should pay more attention on cancer and take care of themselves.
I think this article is timely since the data are collected from the last year’s report. These latest shows that cancer are becoming a more and more serious problem among university students. From the article, it shows that one of tenth cases of cancer in Ohio is college students; cancer has become the fourth leading cause of death among people at 18-22 years old.
Moreover, the article is compelling, too. College students are the hopes of the future society. If lots of them meet their end at this age because of the disease, it’s also a dramatic lost for the society. This topic is noticeable for not only current students and their parents, but also the whole community. The author uses his own experience to express how the disease will affect his friends and people around him when he was diagnosed get cancer.
Finally, the article is relevant. At the latter part of the article, the author lists several points to teach students how to take care themselves and get rid of getting cancer. It make sense to people.
